PRIME MINISTERIAL RORTS.It was heartening to see ex-prime minister Paul Keating called to account about his dealings with Indonesian financiers by the TV show "sixty minutes" on Sunday night. In particular, Australians should be concerned that this matter might have interfered with Australia's foreign policy concerns for the Timorese people. Perhaps Mr. Keating can be gaoled for "high crimes & misdemeanors".
Some retired Australian prime ministers seem to have very cosy financial relationships with some of the incumbent regional dictators. Often the said dictators rule repressive and corrupt regimes (like Indonesia & China) which the Australian government perhaps should have condemned for civil rights breaches during said prime ministerial tenure. Am I unreasonable in thinking that these relationships are improper?
UPDATE SERBIA 24 March 1999
Politicians never learn, do they.
Serbia/Kosovo will not be solved by external force. Illegal acts by NATO will destroy NATO. If NATO invades, we have Afghanistan again. If it doesn't, we have a new diaspora & genocide.
Our politicians want to disarm us.
