- MORE TAXES -

Chinese peasant author Gao Qiwei recently wrote:  "The government's appetite for taxes is a bottomless pit, Even if we had a gold mountain and a silver mountain, it would not be enough".

After just gaining huge amounts of income from the much hated GST, the NSW government is again in search of more money to pay it's politicians even more baksheesh.  Also (no doubt) money is needed to cover the huge losses engendered by the Olympics fiasco.

When are the people of Australia ever going to realize?  The system of government that uses a parliament of elected representatives is not working.  It is being rorted.  Parliament is broken.  It has failed in the UK and it is fast failing here.

It is necessary that there be a way for the people to forestall the unwise or corrupt decisions of elected legislators, executives and judiciary.  Waiting for three or four years to fix those errors is unworkable, especially in a two party system where the major parties often maintain mirror policies (as with the GST).

What Australians need is participatory, direct democracy.   As more calls are made for it's introduction, it can be predicted with certainty that there will be an unending stream of ponderous rationalizations as to why direct democracy is neither possible nor desirable.

The technology exists.  It is used daily by banks.  The Icelanders, the Swiss and half of the states of the USA are witness that it works.

Of course, human nature being what it is, it is unlikely that politicians and parasitic journalists will readily forsake their feeding troughs.
