NATIONAL

- KEATING

The Keating government made a treaty in secret with the Indonesian Suharto Government.  Paul is said by the Packer media to have sold his piggery for a good price at about that time to a buddy of Suharto.

Sorry Paul, with that juxtaposition, most Australians think you are a crook.  Spin thinks so too.  No good trying to blame Johnny Howard for the tens of thousands of people who died after you gave comfort to Soeharto.

- DIRECT GOVERNMENT.

Johnny Howard would be winning kudos for not promoting the politician's republic if it hadn't been himself that scotched the direct elected model.  Speaking of direct election, the Reverend Fred Nile in the NSW Legislative Council (upper house) has refloated a direct government (called CIR for Citizen Initiated Referendums) bill.  This is most certainly not a politician's bill.  Clover's office has already indicated opposition to this bill, based on the potential to target minoriries.  With Paddington in her manor one can sympathize with her sensitivity on this issue.

INTERNATIONAL

- ANTI ICBM (ABM) TOYS

Last week SPIN said

"The ABM test carried out in the pacific is seen by Aussie Spin as a blunt warning to the Chinese and north Korean leadership."

"It .. means that the highest tech will win any set piece war in the near future.   Only an open society can overtake the US technology advantage.  The only hope for the Chinese mainlanders to rival the US technology and become a world military power is to engineer a reverse takeover by Taiwan."

Slick Willie realizes these facts, as evidenced by his offer of the technology to the Chinese & Russians.   The simple fact is, any individual smart enough to manipulate IT is not about to work for a bunch of  losers like the PRC leadership.  The people capable of applying the leading edge technology are the princes of the coming age.  Why should they kowtow to political or bureaucratic has-beens?

Of course the PRC leaders can be expected to be selfish enough to maintain their preeminent position in a country of 1.2 billion because they prefer to be the big fish in a shrinking pond.  Currently the top ten US corporations could "buy" China.  In five years, the top US corporation will be able to buy China all on it's own.
