NATIONAL

- SO THERE WAS NO MILLENNIUM BUG IN AUSTRALIA.

SPIN did not brave the harbor city (Sydney) for the millennium celebrations.  Not being a mainstream media personality, invitations to watch with Kerry & Rupert on harbor yachts were not forthcoming.

INTERNATIONAL

- PHILANDERER WILLIE'S CHICKENS ROOST

The final act of Bill's Serbian adventure (reportedly demanded as a peace offering by Hillary after Monica) may not yet be played out.  First there was Chechnya, and now there is Putin.

Vlad (Vladimir) Putin was a very strong supporter of the recent Russian initiative into Chechnya, and this support is credited with his burgeoning popularity and recent landslide as prime minister.  He has gained widespread recognition for his efforts to maintain the Soviet strategic rocket arsenal.  Putin is described by by Martin Sieff (UPI) as tough.   Putin has stated that there is a Russian psyche which is more collectivist than civil libertarian.

He learned his craft in the KGB as a protégé of Yuri Andropov.  Putin's policy is "talk softly and carry a big stick".

Now, courtesy of the Serbian bombing and President Yeltsin, Prime Minister Putin may well become President of Russia.  The "balance of powers" in Russia is weak. The President of Russia has far greater power than the President of the USA.

During the term of Reagan the heat of the cold war faded.  During Clinton it is rising rapidly, with an upside potential hazard far more serious than at any time since WWII.

Why is it that what those who sound most fair produce the most foul result?

Most people have an incident with a flaired rogue.  We learn from experience.
