NATIONAL

- POLICE MURDER

Sydney police have resumed murdering civilians.  Last week three police called to a domestic in Eastern Sydney shot and killed an unarmed man.  The policeman who pulled the trigger excused himself saying that he was "in fear of his life".

Mmph.

The feral police problem is not unique to Sydney.  Police in LA are the subject of a city inquiry because of police murder of innocent civilians. (search LATimes using keyword "rampart")

Possible solutions
    a) disarm the police.
    b) allow everybody to carry concealed weapons.
    c) have a mandatory murder trial whenever a policeman kills a civilian.
    d) nobody responsible for another person's death can hold a job as a policeman.
    e) any policeman who has killed must immediately lose his employment as a policeman.
    f) whoever is in charge when an arrested or confined person suicides loses public employment.
    g) repeal drug & other victimless crimes and thus reduce the incentive to corrupt police.
    h) repeal drug & other victimless crimes and thus allow reduction of size of the police force.
    i) any other suggestions?

- JOHN HOWARD & ALLAN JONES & GST & REPUBLIC

When Allan Jones claimed he could accept money for advertising and still give an honest opinion on the worth of the goods, the radio industry had kittens.  Now "Honest John" Howard would have us believe a lack of any bias in his dealing with his brother's corporation.

{snide chuckle}

John, if you want a diversion, start up preparing for a referendum on a people's republic, straight away.

If you throw in CIR, (citizens initiated legislation) it might even subdue the nastiness of the GST.  You have a week or so to act.

INTERNATIONAL

- WIRANTO.

Last week General Wiranto granted an interview to a local journalist.  He had a plausible explanation.  I would still like to see that explanation tested.

- CHECHNYA.

IMAGINARY INTERVIEW WITH PUTIN:

PUTIN: You ask about Russian atrocities?
It is the only way to combat Chechen terrorism & atrocities!
There is a codicil to Murphy's law, "it is always the best and most uncivilized fighters who seem to doubt the hegemony of large states."

SPIN: Poor Mr. Putin.  There is so much oil money to be gained from holding Chechnya, but it will cost so many Russian lives.   And meanwhile the Iranians must be bribed to stay out of the action.

PUTIN: Thank god the Americans bombed Serbia.  Without that, Chechnya could not have happened."

- IRELAND.

SPIN is neither Irish nor catholic.  SPIN thinks Blair is a blithering idiot, because only a blithering idiot would stop the peace process in Ireland because somebody refused to hand over their guns.

People owning guns is what keeps governments honest.  Look around the world.  Catalogue those countries that you think of as liberty oriented and those as not liberty oriented.   OK.  Now check the status of gun ownership in those countries.  You will find that the more liberty oriented the nation, the more pressure to own a gun, and vice versa.
