- PAULINE HANSON -

The spoiler is back at work again.  Pauline Hanson, third party scourge of the Australian two party system, is back with vengeance.

SPIN believes that Pauline Hanson has a lot of work to do on her image.  The first thing she should learn to do is think twice before responding to questions.  The second thing is to speak calmly.  The third thing is rehire David Oldfield.

Maybe I am misinformed, but it appears that David Oldfield was the organizer of the Australia wide branch network of One Nation.  John Pasquerelli, while no doubt a charming & colorful character, seems to be a wrecker, not a builder.

Some journalists claim Pauline has got no policies.  She has some.  They were published three years past.  From memory, they included:

And isn't she planning to repeal the GST?

With that grab bag of policies she would have SPIN's vote.  She doesn't even have to say how she would do it.  Those policies would stimulate business so much that they would pay for themselves.

More importantly than my vote, she just might have the support of Rupert Murdoch and a few other media malcontents.   Not because of her winning ways, of course.  John Howard's TV & datacasting legislation was not universally popular among the press barons.

THE FUTURE

SPIN believes that the CCA (City & Country Alliance) will be dead next week.  One Nation will have their seats.  Nobody likes rats.

John Howard made three mistakes.

  1. Vilifying One Nation.
  2. Enacting gun control legislation
  3. Enacting the GST while believing that Australians were too thick to understand they had been screwed.
Because "Honest John" could not believably turncoat to Pauline, the only hope for the coalition must be his resignation & the appointment of a new leader & cabinet who can co-operate with One Nation.  To make a win more likely, the new leader should repeal the gun laws and repeal the GST.  Perhaps even ask Pauline to join the Coalition?

It's not about to happen.  (Politicians lack the organizing ability and the courage).  But then, neither is a third John Howard federal liberal government about to happen without Pauline's say-so.
