Proposed recovery of parking spaces.
The number of places that it is hoped will be recovered are shown marked with
an X. There are possibly as many as thirteen. There are thirty six existing parking spaces, shown circled.
There is a potential 35% increase in the parking spaces available in the circled area.

NOTES
"No Standing" at 19 Sutherland Avenue.
- There is a 4 meter "No Standing" zone outside No.
19 Sutherland Avenue, Paddington. If this were removed there
would be a continuous 18 meter stretch of road, which would accommodate
about 4 cars, (if they were not all large cars).
- The
footpath in Sutherland Avenue is about 800 mm wide (about the width of
a normal doorway). The "No Standing" sign was ostensibly a
safety feature, and was installed to stop vehicles parking across the
doorway of it's retired (car-less) occupant. Since then No 19 has
aquired an additional occupant and car.
The Five Spaces in Sutherland Avenue between Elizabeth St and Elizabeth Lane.
- These five (actually six) spaces existed until
quite recently. The owner of 97 Elizabeth St. complained that
trucks were scratching the wall of his building because of the road
camber. Council took the cheap way out, and moved the parking to
that side of the road, in the process "losing" five spaces.
- I asked a builder how much it would cost to raise the road. His estimate was "about $6,000".
- When confronted with this quote Mr. Hatton,
chairman of the traffic committee stated that WMC council's estimate
was "much higher, due to drainage problems", but declined to say how
much higher.
The six and a half spaces in Elizabeth Street.
- It is envisaged that these six/seven spaces might become
available if the footpath were to be extended into the street as "peninsulars"
that would then guide turning traffic around the parked cars.
