TUTORIAL ON USING THE NHTSA ENGINE

NOTE

THE SEQUENCE OF PAGES.
(A) After clicking on the query, the opening page is found.  You can select the year [1996] on this page, then click SUBMIT.
(B) The main selector page is next downloaded.  Select [alcohol involvement] [person type] [restraint system use] [roadway function] [vehicle body type].  Then SUBMIT
(C) The detail selector page appears.
    (1) & (2) Leave the first two boxes, [all states] and [all]
    (3) select [Driver of a motor vehicle],
    (4) leave the next box [all]
    (5) select either the seven rural or the seven urban roads in the RFUN box.
    (6) Then select options labelled [1] up to [9] in the BODY TYPE box.
Multiple selection is possible by holding down the control key.
(D) The Presentation Selector page appears.  Select [cross tab]
(E)  The variable selector page appears.  Select [submit]
(F)  The grouping page appears.  Accept the defaults [submit]
(G)  The answer page appears.  eg.
        (1) Add "no seat belt used" to "improperly used" [1364+6] to obtain 1370 (Table 4a,1997, column 2)
        (2) Add "shldr" & "lap" & "shldr & lap" & "type unk." [31+16+507+40] to obtain 594 (Table 4a,1997, column 5)
And so build up the tables.
