MAP OF SYDNEY

The Sydney CBD is on the southern side of Sydney Harbour, about 7 kilometers West of Bondi Beach.  On the Eastern edge of the CBD is Hyde park, which extends out to Lady Macquarie's Chair on the harbour.  Hyde park contains a War Memorial, the Archibald Fountain, and statues of important people.  Lady Macquarie's chair has spectacular harbour bridge & opera house views.  On the western side of the CBD is Darling Harbour, a billion dollar redevelopment of the previous state government.

The Cathedral is on the East side of Hyde Park.  Skyscrapers have cast the park in shadow leaving the cathedral in light.

This is the Archibald Fountain, in the North end of Hyde Park.

The War Memorial is in the Southern end of Hyde Park.

This statue of "Good Queen Bess" is at the northern end of Hyde Park. In the background is a statue of her consort, "Albert the Good"

This is the statue of Albert the Good, with Hyde Park in the background.

This statue is of Captain Cook, the first European to explore the East Coast of Australia.  It was paid for by contribution from the grateful inhabitants of Sydney circa 1870.

This is the harbour bridge & the opera house, looking West from Lady MacQuarie's chair.

Another view of the bridge & opera house seen on a cloudy day from Lady MacQuarie's Chair.

This artificial lake in the Darling Harbour park on the West of the city is surrounded by children's playgrounds and open air coffee shops.

A view of the Darling Harbour shopping complex.

This is the infamous "Wall".  It is located between King's Cross and Taylor's Square, and surrounds the East Sydney Technical College, which was formerly a jail.   If someone in the gay part of Sydney (that area within a couple of kilometers of Taylor's Square) says that he "went to the wall", chances are, he wasn't sent broke in business.  More likely this was the wall he was referring to.
