MIND, BODY, AND SPIRIT FESTIVAL

Magic, massage and healing were all on offer at this year’s Mind Body and Spirit Festival, which ran from the 27 April to the 30 April. Exotic herbs, foods, and mind-altering devices were being exhibited at Darling Harbour, promising a greater understanding and insight into ones personal life.Workshops and lectures on topics ranging from Yoga and Tai Chi to Past Life Regression were being held.

I attended a free demonstration by Chris James, a singer, and voice instructor. I experienced a natural high whilst screaming my lungs out in front of hundreds of strangers, and releasing those deep seated animal like grunts which I was assured we all have hidden inside.

To calm the nerves I sampled healthy veggie chips, snacked on tacos and was coerced into drinking energetically purified water which had an immediate effect on my stomach

( I needed to go…) I met a sweet old lady who was barbecuing vegetarian kebabs , hamburgers, nuggets and sausages…I think she thought I was undernourished as she forced me to sample more than I could stomach, however they were very tasty.

Pain was found and released in parts of my body, which I never actually knew existed. A magnetic neck brace was placed around my shoulders, I immediately felt the energy drain from my head into my toes it took me about 20 min to regain my natural composure.

I was tempted to buy a Tibetan meditating bowl for $125.00, unfortunately for the salesperson I remembered my parents had just returned from Nepal with the same meditation bowl costing roughly$10.00. Later, my partner was whisked away into a meditation room, which used laser lights, smoke, and music to create an atmosphere conducive to a deep-seated state of relaxation. After his exploration into the world of the unknown, he seemed a bit peculiar, but after a while he returned to planet earth.

People were queuing up for astrology readings, past life regressions and tarot cards. The main attraction was Aura photography. A special camera was being used to photograph the magnetic field around the human body. Unfortunately, the queue was too long so the colour of my aura will have to remain a hidden secret. However, I managed to have my name dissected and interpreted ‘Mandy’ –concerned with issues of men and sexuality, rhymes with randy! I will have to meditate on this before I jump to any conclusions.

The Body, Mind and Spirit festival is an enjoyable way to spend the day. Unfortunately, if you are looking for spirituality, the meaning of life, or a reputable practitioner I do not recommend it. However, if you want a good laugh, a book or a couple of freebies go along and experience aspects of the ‘alternative’ you won’t be disappointed…Oh but be assured you will have to contend with a lot of American salespeople, they are everywhere.
