NAVIGATING THE TAFE INTRANET
The TAFE intranet can be used to transfer files from one computer's
hard disk to another computer's hard disk, or to use a printer or CD driver
attached to another computer. The technique of navigating is the
same in each case.
On the "host" computer which is the computer that has the resource (printer
or disk or CD) which is to be accessed"

Right click on the "network neighbourhood" icon. A menu should
appear.

Click "properties" on the menu.

Click the "identification" tab

Take a note of the computer name and workgroup.

Click the "access control" tab.

The button "share level access control" should be selected.

Click "OK" to close the network workbox. If you had to change the
"share level access control" setting, allow the computer to reboot.

Double click the "my computer" icon on the desktop.

With the right button of the mouse click the resource that is to be shared
(the C: disk or a subdirectory, or the printer, or the CD drive).

Click the "sharing" option, click the "shared as" option, then select the
access type, and whether the resource is to be password protected.

Click the "OK" button.

A hand should appear cradling the resource shared.
On the resource using computer:

Repeat steps 1 . . 4 above.

If the resource is a printer, use the buttons [START] [SETTINGS]
[PRINTERS], then select [add printer] then select [network printer] then
[browse].

If the resource is not a printer, then left double click the "network neighbourhood"
icon.

If the workgroups of both computers (the host and the using computer) were
the same, the host computer name should be visible.

If the workgroups were different, double click the "entire network" icon
near the top, and look for the workgroup. Double click the workgroup,
then look for the host computer.

Double click on the host computer icon. The resource should be visible.

click on the resource, then click "OK".
The resource should now be available. At this point a shortcut to
the resource can be created, by right clicking on the resource, then selecting
"new" and "shortcut".
