- RACISM IN AUSTRALIA
Australia is becoming a nation of institutionalized
First there was the extremist response of the major political parties
the Hanson party who wanted to stop positive discrimination on the
of race. Then the Australian High Court kept the ball rolling
a racist decision against a person of dual nationality who was elected
Senator. The latest racist activity to surface is the attempt by
the Government appointed Republican movement to introduce racism to the
Republic referendum by their insistence that the referendum refer to an
"AUSTRALIAN" president. Surely we do not need to legislate that
parliament's choice of president must be an Australian citizen?
But why is Spin surprised? Politics is not about facts, it is about image.
- HEROIN TRIALS & AIDS.
The NSW Government has legalized "shooting galleries" for Heroin. A shooting gallery is a government designated place attended by persons with some medical training, and provides clean needles to drug users who must bring their own drugs.
We can hope that this initiative will help to reduce the spread of AIDS. Ebola is a very showy disease, but AIDS is deceptive. A cure is seemingly as remote as ever, and since there is no cure, the fatality rate remains at 100%.
It is a long way to go before the use of all drugs is legalized, but "a journey of a thousand kilometers must begin with a single step". Well done!
- CHINA & TAIWAN * NORTH KOREA & ROCKETS.
The situation in the East Asian theater is becoming
hazardous. China has moved against the local organization "Falun"
because it's leaders are frightened. Fear is evident also in the
response to Taiwan. Of course Spin's suggestion that it is time
the fearful leadership to be replaced by a democratic government is not
likely to help...
